STAFF at a Salisbury vets were left short of cash after a naughty pooch polished off a day's takings from the safe.

Hungry Harley, a three-year-old Collie cross, is owned by veterinary surgeon, Sandra Feltham, from Salisbury Companion Care Vet Surgery in the Pets At Home store.

He is renowned for eating everything in sight and recently polished off four doughnuts and wolfed down half a banana cake.

However, it seems his tastes have become a little more expensive when the staff realised the missing £40 from the safe had been scoffed by Harley.

Veterinary assistant, Tash O'Kelly, found out what had happened after spotting the remains of a £20 in his droppings when she took him for his lunchtime walk.

"I just could not believe it when I saw the £20 note," she said, "I just didn't believe he would do it."

Sandra admits Harley is very naughty and mischievous, but she was shocked when she realised he was the culprit.

"I took the half a note to the bank after it went through the washing machine, however I'm afraid the rest of the money was never found," she added.

Staff at the surgery have wised up to Harley's eating habits now, and are making sure nothing edible is left out for him to get his paws on.
